It’s a Shame the Way You Mess Around with My Heart
The difference between guilt and shame is that guilt results when someone does something wrong; shame is when an action, either self inflicted or inflicted by someone else, results in labeling ourselves as a bad person, not good enough, or not worthy. Shame has the power to have us retreat from the goodness to which that God has called us, can lead to depression, and in some cases, have us stay in toxic relationships.
God has not called us to live a life of shame, and it is important that Christians learn how to identify when shame rears its head and identifies strategies to overcome this demonic force. Whether it be through repeated forgiveness, prayer, meditation, repentance, addressing the issue, or counseling, it is important that the shackles of shame are broken so that we can advance ourindividual and collective callings that God has placed in our hearts.
